Personal life
My life has gone through various obstacles which have defined my life significantly in different ways. As the saying goes, every experience an individual goes through in life contributes to one way or another in shaping their destiny. This paper will focus various personal challenges that I have had to overcome and the proceeding effects of these obstacles that I have experienced.
The war
After the war broke out a few year back, I was still a teenager living in the villages. The war was politically motivated; thus people were divided long political which translated into civil war, the effects were devastating. My family was displaced from our home which meant that we had to relocate to the border where it was much safe. We were hosted as internally displaced families where we were housed and care for by the various humanitarian organizations which were backed by the United Nations. I was psychological and emotional distressed, being raised and bred in a civilized environment made it difficult to adjust to the new surroundings, which meant that we had to share temporary shelters with other families. Lack of enough basic needs like, food, water and healthcare made life difficult, additionally; we had to stop attending school because of the displacement. In the midst of all these post-war adversaries I was able to realize my strength and capabilities; I became for resilient towards life in general, brave and courageous. The claws of war had “brought out” a different persona that was able to challenge or counter the status quo, such shifts in ideology and believe enabled to cultivate a spirit of dependency, courage, and positivity that I continue to uphold to this very day.
One of the devastating events that shock me during the wars was the lawlessness and the high level of impunity. People were being arrested and detained without trial if they were suspected of being traitors. An example, my father was one of the local vocal leaders in our camp; he used to “speak out” against the government and the rebels hence he was perceived as a sympathizer by both of the fighting sides. Thus he was arrested by the government and detained without trial, my father was locked up for months and moved from one detention center to another, when we went to visit him at one time, I tears ran down my face when I saw him in deplorable condition. I wondered why he was detained because he was not a criminal but I was too young to understand the complexities of war and their effects on the people. This experience brought a significant change in my life as I came to appreciate the gift of life, family and the importance of peace to any nation.
As the war came to an end, my father was realized, and life began returning to normal. The experiences I went through shaped me to who I am today, people, especially my classmates they usually claim I look mature of my age because of the way I handle myself from my personality to my character. Because I am humble, positive, down to earth, and “smart” reflecting some of the lessons I learned when undergoing challenges and obstacles during the war period.
